This week was Life Group Sunday! God has a vision for the church including the corporate gathering of God’s people and a home group reality that is essential to a healthy, thriving Christian walk. Pastor Chris shared the different levels of living in community, and components of a healthy Life Group. Casey Mock, Community Life director, then shared stories of love and support found in Life Groups and invited you to join a group today.

Level 1: The Fellowship of Sharing Experiences & Support

“All the believers met together constantly and shared everything with each other.”
Acts 2:44 (LB)

“When you gather, each one of you be prepared with something useful for all: Sing a song, teach a lesson, tell a story, lead a prayer, provide an insight… Take your turn, with no one person taking over. That way… you all learn from each other.” 1 Cor. 14:26, 30-31 (MSG)

Level 2: The Fellowship of Belonging

“…You are members of God’s very own family… and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian.” Eph. 2:19 (LB)

Level 3: The Fellowship of Serving Together

“We are partners working together for God.” 1 Cor. 3:9a (TEV)

Level 4: The Fellowship of Suffering

“If one member suffers, all suffer together.” 1 Cor. 12:26 (ESV)

Components of a Healthy Life Group:
• “Meating” ~ Sharing a meal together is a sign of deep fellowship cutting through all other affiliations.
• Sharing ~ As the redeemed of Jesus, we do not belong to ourselves anymore; we belong to God and therefore God’s community.
• Praying ~ The Lord often talks to us through the corporate and bearing each other’s burdens.
• Processing ~ Living out the Word of God and helping each other live transparent lives.

Why Life Groups:

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:42

“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35

Benefits of a Life Group

  1. It connects us to the body of Christ spiritually and physically.

1 Corinthians 12:27 (The Message)
27 You are Christ’s body—that’s who you are! You must never forget this. Only as you accept your part of that body does your “part” mean anything.

  1. We understand the Bible better.

1 Corinthians 14:30–31 (The Message)
30 Take your turn, no one person taking over. 31 Then each speaker gets a chance to say something special from God, and you all learn from each other.

  1. Prayer becomes more meaningful and powerful to us.

Matthew 18:19–20 (The Message)
19 When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. 20 And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.”

  1. We’re able to handle stress better.

Galatians 6:2 (The Message)
2 Stoop down and reach out to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ’s law.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What is your story about coming to Life Group? For example, what were some of your life circumstances before joining, and what were your first few impressions?
  2. Encourage one another with stories of how Life Group has impacted you?
  3. How can your group pray for you this week?

Application Question:

  1. If you are not yet in a part of a Life Group, your application step this week is to sign up today! To find your family before your fall, check out all the Life Groups on the app or the website.
  2. If you are a part of a Life Group, reach out to someone in your group this week to encourage them and ask how you can specifically pray for their week.
