What Does It Mean to be a Member?
The Bible uses many pictures to describe Christians as a community: a household (Eph. 2:19), a human body (I Cor. 12:12-31) and a temple made up of “living stones” (I Peter 2:4-5, Eph. 2:21). All of these illustrate and encourage our interconnectedness and our need for each other. When a believer joins a particular fellowship, he or she is bearing witness to a union that has already happened in the heart.
An individual does not need to become a member to thrive and be actively involved at City Central Church. In fact, many of the City Central family are not members. But for those who do choose to become members, we believe that there are many joys and benefits in making this commitment.
Our commitment to God and one another work to shape our culture and our community. Membership is an outward, formalized sign of the inward mutual commitment we have made with each other and Jesus Christ. This commitment helps to define not only our role, but also the intention of our heart; it affects our decisions and influences our perspective. This commitment is costly, but the payoff is immense.
As members, we join together for God’s glory and our mutual benefit; we share the responsibilities and rewards of all that God will accomplish through us. In addition, as outlined in our bylaws, membership is an important component in our relationship with the government and the proper stewardship of the resources God has entrusted to our congregation over the years. As elders of City Central Church, we invite you to consider joining us as members of this body of believers.
Our commitment to you
As your leaders, we will foster a trustworthy leadership team that submits to the authority of the Word of God (I Tim. 3:1-13 & Titus 1:6-9, I Peter 5:1-7). We commit to prepare you “for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (Eph. 4:12-13). We will seek to set an example in speech, life, love, faith and purity (1Tim. 4:12) and accurately teach the Word of Truth (2 Tim. 2:15). We are willing shepherds of “God’s flock” (1 Peter 5:2) holding one another to the expectations written below. We will be approachable and teachable and create a church family full of faith, hope, love and joy!
Membership at City Central Church means affirming the following commitments that express our devotion to Christ and to one another. These commitments, keep us all pointed in the same direction as we follow Jesus as members of this local church. By signing this commitment, you acknowledge your need to cooperate with God’s love and power as He establishes righteousness in all of us, which we cannot create on our own. I affirm the following: I profess Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior of my life, I commit to following and obeying Him all the days of my life (Romans 10:9-10, Luke 9:23). I commit to serving the Lord Jesus and His Body (Body of Christ, the Church) with the gifts He has given me according to 1 Corinthians 12. I agree to willingly follow the leadership at City Central (Elder Rule) as they follow the Lord Jesus according to the Word of God (Romans 13, Hebrews 13:17).
I commit to Honoring the Lord Jesus in my tithes and offerings. Understanding that all I have is the Lord’s and that He has called me to steward what He has entrusted to me. As I honor Him with the tithe it represents and declares His blessing over all I have (Proverbs 3:9,10, Matthew 6:19). I commit to obeying the Word of God and declare it’s authoritative in all areas of my life (1Timothy 3:16,17, 1 John 5:3, John 14:21). I commit to seek to live a holy life (set apart for Him) in all I do (1Peter1:15,16). I commit to help meet the needs of the poor as the Holy Spirit leads me (James 1:26, Proverbs 14:21).
I agree that all people regardless of their color, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation are created in the image of God. And the grace of God through Jesus Christ is available to all who call upon the Name of the Lord Jesus for their salvation (Revelation 5:9,10 & 7:9, Romans 10:13). I commit to attending City Central regularly and inviting people to Church (Hebrews 10:24-25, Acts 1:8). I commit myself to the Vision at City Central to “Adore God, Become like Jesus, and Contend for the Kingdom” (Matthew 22:37-39, 1John 2:6, Matthew 28:19,20). I have read and am in agreement with City Central’s Statement of Faith. I agree to be governed by the congregation’s bylaws as they pertain to church life.
