What Does It Mean to be a Member?
The Bible uses many pictures to describe Christians as a community: a household (Eph. 2:19), a human body (I Cor. 12:12-31) and a temple made up of “living stones” (I Peter 2:4-5, Eph. 2:21). All of these illustrate and encourage our interconnectedness and our need for each other. When a believer joins a particular fellowship, he or she is bearing witness to a union that has already happened in the heart.
An individual does not need to become a member to thrive and be actively involved at City Central Church. In fact, many of the City Central family are not members. For those who do choose to become members, we believe that there are many joys and benefits in making this commitment.
Our commitment to God and one another works to shape our culture and our community. Membership is an outward, formalized sign of the inward mutual commitment we have made with each other and Christ. This commitment helps to define not only our role, but also the intention of our heart; it affects our decisions and influences our perspective. This commitment is costly, but the payoff is immense.
As members, we join together for God’s glory and our mutual benefit; we share the responsibilities and rewards of all that God will accomplish through us. As outlined in our bylaws, membership is an important component in our relationship with the government and the proper stewardship of the resources God has entrusted to our congregation. As elders of City Central Church, we invite you to consider joining us as members of this body of believers.
Steps to Membership
There are 2 classes that you are required to complete for membership. Once these classes have been completed, you can submit a membership application to the church administrator for an elder to sign. Once approved, you will be welcomed as a new member into the City Central family during one of our quarterly membership Sundays.
The Connect Class is a four-week class designed to help you connect to City Central’s unique purpose, vision, mission and values. It provides an introduction to our history, beliefs, and potential ministry opportunities.
If you are unable to attend the above class, you may take our online Connect Class. Once you have completed the course, you can fill out the Membership Application, or learn about the next Freedom Class or Immersion.
Immersion or Freedom Class
Freedom Immersions: Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Freedom ministry gives you the tools to live in Christ’s authority with restored purpose, a renewed mind, and healthy relationships with God and others. Jesus has created you for abundance… accept nothing less.
Freedom Class: Learn more about what it means to live free in Christ during this 5-week course.
Apply for Membership
Carefully read and pray about the membership commitment. If you believe God wants you to make this commitment, at the end of the City Central Connect Class you will be given an application to complete. Once you have completed all the classes, you can then submit an application and signed Membership Agreement along with Statement of Faith to the City Central Eldership for their approval. Upon approval, you’ll receive a letter of welcome, a signed copy of your membership commitment, and will be welcomed into the City Central family on one of our new member recognition Sundays.
