Sermon Summary
This week, Pastor Chris continued in our series through the book of Acts called Empowered. After Stephen was raised up to take the Gospel forward, Saul began persecuting Christians in a significant way, leading to the dispersing of believers throughout the region. God then raised up Philip who began attracting crowds in Samaria until the Holy Spirit told him to find one lost individual. The core of evangelism is found in one Christian sharing the Gospel with a nonbeliever. The divine shift in the narrative from mass to individual salvation reflects the heartbeat of Jesus to go after the one.
Acts 8:25–26 (ESV)
25 Now when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans. 26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place.

30 So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this: “Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth. 33 In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken away from the earth.” 34 And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?” 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.

Discussion Questions
- Think about the seed of faith that was planted in your heart when you chose to follow Jesus. Did a specific person plant that seed? How did they do it? Share with the group.
- Pastor Chris shared a personal story of a man with bullet wound scars who shared the full Gospel to him in a time of need. Chris believed he was entertaining an angel in this encounter. Have you ever had an encounter like this?
- What is your natural bend when it comes to evangelism? Is there anything standing in the way of you preaching the Gospel openly? (Examples: fear of man, passivity, disobedience)
- Look through the list of how the Holy Spirit speaks to us. Does the Spirit speak to you in a specific way? Share with the group.
- How can we grow in sensitivity to the Holy Spirit? What role does obedience play in evangelism?
Application Questions
- Consider your answer to discussion question #3. Seek the Lord in prayer and ask Him to reveal what stands in the way. Repent of it this week and find refreshment in the Lord (Acts 3:19-20).
- Pray and ask the Lord to reveal anybody in your life whom you need to share the Gospel with personally. Make a plan to meet with that person this week.
- Do you want to grow in sensitivity to the Holy Spirit? Ask a prayer warrior in your life to pray over you in this area.
