This week is Life Group Sunday at City Central! Community Life Director, Casey Mock, taught on Biblical community. Drawing from Acts 2, she highlighted how the early church modeled deep fellowship through shared meals, prayer, teaching, and real-life support—laying the foundation for the Life Groups at City Central. In a world where many feel isolated, discouraged, or overwhelmed, gospel-centered community offers strength, spiritual growth, and the encouragement needed to stay faithful and finish strong.

What is Biblical community?

  1. We model our life groups after a biblical precedent we see set by the early church- the early church being disciples and followers who heard Jesus teach, saw him crucified, resurrected and ascent back to Heaven.

Acts 2:42, 46-47

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of break and the prayers. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their day by day numbers those who were being saved.

Components of a biblical community (all things we see in Acts 2)

  • Eat together- Sharing a meal together is a sign of deep fellowship cutting through all other affiliations. Shared humanity. 8-12 adults (many groups have kids too).
  • Share- Sermon based discussion. We discuss the sermon from Sunday and share our thoughts/struggles/victories the sermon surfaced.
  • Pray- God often talks to us through the corporate and bearing each other’s burdens. Time for prayer requests and prayer at Life Group but often also through text threads and regular encouragement.
  • Processing- Living out the Word of God in the context of every day real life. Being there for each other in fun moments and hard moments…helping someone move, watching each other’s kids, having people to bring you a meal when you are sick or have a baby, etc.
  • Many of us can relate to feeling fearful, discouraged, tired and battle feelings of failure. We can be tempted to run, but community can help you!

“Where is the church going to get mature leaders, if immature leaders run? Don’t go.”

-Paul David Tripp

  • Every one of us needs other Godly people around us to encourage us to keep growing, challenge us to keep going when we want to give up, speak truth when we can’t speak truth to ourselves, and point out sin that we are too blind to see if left alone. This is how we make it the long-haul in life…to stand before God one day and hear “well done, good and faithful servant”…we can’t do it alone.

“Longevity in Christ is the fruit of spiritual maturity, and spiritual maturity is the result of longevity, and both are the fruit of gospel community.”

-Paul David Tripp

  • In true biblical community spiritual maturity grows, lives become rooted in Christ, and God makes his invisible presence visible through people.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

“Two are better than one…For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up.”

John 13:34-35

I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Heb 10:24-25

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

The benefits of being in a life Group:

  • It connects us to the body of Christ. Life Groups make big church feel small!
  • It helps us understand the Bible better. We can ask questions, hear other perspectives, others give an interpretation.
  • Prayer becomes more meaningful and powerful.
  • It helps us learn our unique place in the body of Christ when we ask ourselves, “How can I help?” “What do I bring to the table?”

At City Central Family, Biblical Community is available to you. You are invited to step into the joy of connecting with others and growing in the Lord through Life Groups! Get your Crew today!
