This week, Pastor Chris shared a brief exhortation in our Christmas Peace series. For many people, Christmas brings stress and hurry rather than peace. However, God has shalom (peace) for us through a relationship with Jesus. This is open to all who commit to trust in Him, walk with Him and be changed by Him.

Luke 2:8–14 (ESV)
8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

John 3:16 (ESV)
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Discussion Questions:

  1. “Fear not, for behold….”. Christmas and the coming of Jesus is the answer to all our fears. Are there fears in your heart you need God to ease and speak a better word over?
  2. It is possible to know about Jesus without trusting in Him or committing to follow Him, but this is not walking in a full of relationship with God. Do you currently or have you in the past lived knowing about Jesus but experienced little no life change and growth?
  3. Reflecting on your previous answer, how would you like to grow in this and experience more of God’s transforming power in your life?
  4. Reread Isaiah 26:3. Are there ways your eyes are fixed on things other than Jesus that may be leading to a lack of peace in your life?

Application Questions:

  1. Three names for Jesus are Savior (the only forgiveness of sins), Christ (Messiah or deliverer), Lord (master over everything). Sit with the Lord this week and ask if there are any ways you are not living in light of who Jesus is. Are you living like He is your Savior or are there ways you work for God’s favor? Is He your deliverer or are you living in bondage? Is he Lord/master over your life or do you struggle for control? Spend some time repenting and allow the Jesus to have full reign in your heart.
