Sermon Summary

This week, Pastor Chris continued in our sermon series on the promises of Christmas. God’s Word exhorts us to be like little children, full of faith and wonder. The holiday season can distract us from fixing our gaze on Christ and the miracle of His birth. If you have lost your wonder, let the truth of Christ’s character as redeemer, bondage breaker, and refuge restore your awe this Christmas season.

Isaiah 9:6 (ESV)
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Wonderful: exceptional, distinguished, and without peer; that which causes wonder.

Jesus Is Wonderful: He is marvelous, astounding, admirable, unusually good, altogether different, and extraordinary.

Jesus is …

1. The Redeemer

Luke 1:68
“Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people…”

2. The Gift of Life

John 1:4
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

3. The Bondage Breaker

John 8:36
Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

4. The Refuge in the Storm

Ps. 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

5. The Restorer of Life

Ruth 4:15
And may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.

  1. Jesus cancels your debt of sin and forgives your past.
  2. Jesus loves you with unlimited love.
  3. Jesus has all the second chances you will ever need.
  4. Jesus has His arms wide open to you.
